No One Likes Me! Essay - 1289 Words

A child comes home from school crying. â€Å"What is wrong?† his mother asked. â€Å"Everyone hates me.† Her son replied with a sniffle. â€Å"No, they do not. Why would you say that?† she asked him. He hung his head and said, â€Å"They said I am a baby because I wear diapers at night. Billy told everyone!† Mom takes her son in her arms and tries to comfort him, wondering what she can do to help. This is not the first time he has come home crying from something Billy has said. Her concern is next time Billy may go a step farther and hurt her son. She tells her son she will talk to Billy’s mom. Her son cries harder and says with a look of fear, â€Å"NO! Billy will beat me up if you tell his mom!† What should she do? Tammy is a popular girl and Susie has only a few friends in school, what can she do to st op the harassment? Bullying can happen in many different ways. According to Kids Health.Org. in their article â€Å"Helping Kids Deal With Bullies† bullying is: Intentional tormenting in physical, verbal, or psychological ways. It can range from hitting, shoving, name-calling, threats, and mocking to extorting money and treasured possessions. Some kids bully by shunning others and spreading rumors about them. Others use email, chat rooms, instant messages, social networking websites, and text messages. . . . (1). With numerous and menacing methods, it is easy to see the negative affect it is having on our children. Common signs of being bullied are school grades falling or the child coming home with unexplained or unusual bruising. These defenseless children are so scared of being abused, they either fake being sick or actually become sick in order to stay home. In a study done by Kathryn Whitted and David Dupper titled â€Å"Best Practices for Preventing or Reducing Bullying in schools† it says, â€Å"The fear of being bullied is so great that an estimated 160,000 students stay home from school every day in the United States† (168). This is a scary number, and it is only an estimate. How many more may be affected? My Personal Leadership My Leadership - 1690 Words

Throughout my life I have been on my own leadership journey. I had not realized it at first but every part of life has a lesson to learn. With the beginning leadership classes and the start of the Leadership Studies Minor, I have become more aware of what true leadership is about. As it was drilled in our heads throughout the course, â€Å"leadership is a process†. Learning this concept cleared the air of all the occasions in life that were adaptive but never had a term to describe them. I know now that the term is â€Å"Adaptive Leadership†. I like the quote; â€Å"Standing in the garage no more makes you a car than standing in an office makes you a leader.† A leader has qualities not positions or titles. A great leader to me is someone who is hard working, visionary, a good active listener, honest, honorable, and someone who is not afraid to ask questions. This is what I believe we have been learning this semester in class. It is the process in which an individual can take to overcome an obstacle by first managing self, to defining the situation, then to intervening skillfully, and energizing others to make the changes needed. As the book states, â€Å"Adaptive Leadership is the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive.† I anticipate using this as a takeaway from the class. Just working through one system this semester through different journal entries I have been able to make a difference. For me, the â€Å"balcony† term sticks the greatest. Because his male parent? s decease had such a great impact on him, Danny decided to acquire his life on the right way by traveling back to school, working part-time, and altering his overall attitude towards life. The most of import thing that Danny now realized was that he needed to travel back to school. After altering these facets in his life, Danny? s overall attitude towards life was now wholly different. Danny now appreciated all the things he had in life, and recognized how his determination to alter his life style benefited him and his household in a figure of ways. He decidedly saw life with a positive attitude, which enabled him to follow through with his dreams. An person who decides to alter their life about on to the right way is decidedly worthy of esteem. Danny was a strong individual who was able to recognize the major mistakes in his life, and so making everything in his power to alter them. Danny? s dramatic bend around has decidedly been a positive consequence on his life. Not merely has his determinations made him a better individual, but doubtless a individual worthy of great regard and esteem.
